What is Bolus
What is Bolus?
Bolus is a healthy eating programme for adults living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. It plans your meals a week at a time and gives you a shopping list to match, so you spend less energy deciding what to eat and more of it eating well. The coaching comes from an AI rather than a human, and the app says so wherever she appears.
What it does
- Plans your week. You get seven days of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, built around how you like to eat. You do not plan any of it yourself.
- Sorts your shopping. Each week comes with a shopping list, grouped by aisle and sized into sensible amounts.
- Learns as you go. You mark how the week went in a short weekly review, and the next week is shaped by the last.
- Shows you your own data. Your glucose, your movement and your weight, reflected back to look at, never scored.
- Coaches you, if you want it. Emily is an AI coach who knows your week and helps you choose one realistic next step. She is part of Bolus Premium; everything above is free.
The idea behind it
Deciding what to eat, day after day, is the part that wears people down. Bolus handles it a week at a time and improves on its own, so there is less to think about when you are tired or busy. To see how the week fits together, read how Bolus works: the weekly loop.
Where things live
Five tabs: Today is the meal in front of you, Food holds your week and your shopping list, Exercise shows the movement your phone already records, Insights looks back at how the week went, and Emily is the coach.
The basics
- It is an iPhone app, and it is free to use. Bolus Premium is an optional subscription, £14.99 a month or £99.99 a year, billed through Apple. See download Bolus and what is free and what is Premium.
- You can connect a glucose monitor if you use one, and let Bolus read your exercise and weight from Apple Health, but you do not have to. See Your CGM and what the Exercise tab shows.
- It is for adults in the UK. You confirm you are 18 or over and living in the UK when you set it up.
- Bolus is not a medical device and gives no dosing advice. It helps with food, alongside the care you already have. See what Bolus does and does not do.
