Your week

How your meals are structured

A Bolus week is three meals a day, seven days: breakfast, lunch and dinner. That is 21 meals in a plan.

What a meal is

Each meal is a full recipe, not a suggestion. It comes with:

  • An ingredient list, quantified for the number of servings you need.
  • A method, written as numbered steps you can follow in the app.
  • Nutrition for one serving: calories, carbohydrate, protein, fat, fibre, sugar and sodium.
  • Allergen labels, where the dish contains any of the common allergens.

Every meal carries its ingredients and method, sized for your household.

Servings

Ingredient quantities are scaled to your household size and portion size, so the list says what you actually need to buy. Change either of those and the whole plan and shopping list re-scale. See change portion and household size.

Where the nutrition figures come from

Nutrition is calculated from the ingredients, using McCance and Widdowson’s The Composition of Foods, the UK reference dataset, and manufacturers’ product labels where that dataset does not cover a product.

Nutrition is per serving, and the source is named at the foot of the panel.

The figures describe what is in the food. They are not targets, and Bolus does not give insulin dosing guidance. Keep making your own dosing decisions the way you normally would.

Snacks

Bolus plans breakfast, lunch and dinner. It does not plan snacks for you, and eating between meals is not something the app marks you down for.
