How meals are chosen

Cooking effort and meal times

You can tell Bolus how much time you want to spend cooking, and roughly when you eat. Both shape which meals you get and how the week is laid out.

Cooking effort

Each meal carries an effort badge based on how long it takes to prepare:

  • Easy, under about 6 minutes to prepare
  • Standard, about 6 to 15 minutes
  • Tight, about 16 to 30 minutes
  • V.Tight, about 31 minutes or more

In Settings you can set the effort you want for each meal, on each day, so a busy Tuesday dinner can be quick while a relaxed Sunday can take longer. Bolus only offers meals that fit the time you have set for that slot. You can also mark a slot as eating out, and Bolus will leave it out of the plan and the shopping.

Meal times

Your default breakfast, lunch, and dinner times set the rhythm of the day and help Bolus line up the week. You can adjust the time of an individual meal from its card if a particular day is different.

When changes take effect

Effort and timing changes apply to weeks created after you make them. The week you are currently in stays as it is, so a plan you have already shopped for does not shift under you.
