The surplus section

When you buy ingredients for a meal and then skip it or eat out, that food does not just disappear from the plan. Bolus keeps track of it in Surplus.

What surplus is

Surplus is a section of your Kitchen that gathers ingredients you already bought for meals that did not happen. Instead of pretending they are gone, Bolus flags them so you can use them up rather than waste them.

Each surplus item shows why it is there, for example that the meal it was for was reshuffled or you ate out.

Using it up

Where it can, Bolus holds surplus ingredients for a suitable meal in a future week, so they get used rather than binned. You will see them noted as saved for later.

This is part of how Bolus tries to make sure nothing you buy is wasted when real life gets in the way of the plan. It works alongside the reshuffle that happens when you skip or move a meal, which you can read about in something else: skip, eat out, or eat later.
