What Emily will not do

There are questions Emily will not answer, and she is not being evasive. Bolus is not a medical device and gives no dosing guidance, and that line is drawn firmly inside Emily.

Insulin and medication

Ask her how much insulin to take, how to adjust a dose, or how to correct a reading, and she will say she cannot help with that and point you back to your care team. She will not give a number, a ratio, or a rule of thumb, however the question is phrased.

Her words for it are warm rather than brisk: working out insulin doses is something only you and your care team should do together, and she is right there for the food side whenever you want a hand with it.

That is the boundary working, not the app failing.

What else is out of scope

  • Diagnosis, or interpreting a symptom.
  • Changing a medication, or advising on one.
  • Predicting your glucose, or promising an outcome from a meal.
  • Anything about someone else’s health.

What she will do instead

Emily stays on the food side: what to eat, how to handle the week, how to make the plan fit your life. If your question was really a food question wearing medical clothing, she will usually answer the food part.

If you are unsure about your treatment, or you are not feeling right, contact your diabetes team. Bolus sits alongside the care you already have, and is not a substitute for it.

Adults only

Bolus is for adults managing their own day-to-day food choices. It is not suitable for anyone on a medically prescribed diet, or with the conditions listed in the disclaimer you accepted at setup. See what Bolus does and does not do.
